Around 1,100 experts from science, politics and practice participated. The plant protection conference is the largest regular specialist event in the field of phytomedicine in Germany and is one of the largest agricultural science conferences in Europe.
The wide range of topics, from the biology and population dynamics of pests and beneficial organisms, host-parasitoid relationships, to crop production and plant protection and integrated and organic farming, among many others, offered all participants the latest research findings, approaches and developments for discussion. In a total of 50 lecture sessions and poster sessions, the potential of resilient and sustainable agriculture, also with regard to biodiversity, was highlighted.
The JKI-MonViA team actively participated in the conference with both poster presentations and lectures.
In the very well-attended section "Bees and other pollinators," the module on wild and honey bees presented initial results from the pilot study on measuring bee diversity in relation to landscape patterns. Three MonViA presentations took place in the second-largest lecture hall in the section "Biodiversity in the Agricultural Landscape/Agroecology I," which remained very well-attended even on the last day of the conference. In addition to presenting the results from the modules on small-scale structures and landscape elements and pests, an overview of the JKI-MonViA modules was also presented.
The German Plant Protection Conference, with its broad reach and wide range of topics, offers an excellent opportunity to bring together basic and applied research and its stakeholders. For MonViA, it provided a valuable platform to showcase its research approaches for assessing biodiversity in agricultural landscapes and to exchange ideas with fellow experts.
