The application of invertebrate natural enemies of plant pests is an indispensable method in integrated pest management. It has been helping to reduce the use of pesticides for decades.

In the publication the authors from the Institute für Biological Control list the parasitoids, predatory mites, beetles, bugs and other predators and entomopathogenic nematodes that are currently commercially availabe and used in Germany.

They also provide recommendations for a future authorization procedure for such beneficial invertebrates under plant protection legislation.

Monitoring beneficial organisms for biological plant protection is a core topic in MonViA. The biodiversity of these beneficial insects provides a bread spectrum for targeted use in crop protection, especially in greenhouses - 1000 species for plant protection!
