Biodiversity and Plant Protection Biodiversity of small waterbodies

Small water bodies in agricultural landscapes can be contaminated with plant protection products through various input pathways (e.g. drift, run-off, erosion). Plant protection products can have a direct and indirect effect on the vitality of macrozoobenthos and influence their diversity. Holistic assessments of the effects of plant protection products on invertebrate communities in standing small water bodies have not yet been possible. Therefore, for the MonViA indicator “Biodiversity and Plant Protection”, an indicator for assessing the effects of pesticides on macrozoobenthos communities through indirect toxic effects on aquatic plants was developed (INPOND; INdirect Pesticide impacts ON Diversity in standing small water bodies), which now forms the basis for the indicator “Biodiversity and Plant Protection”.
