The "food utilization" sub-indicator serves to identify food availability and the forage plants utilized by honeybees. Based on this, forage gaps—characterized by a lack of intensively used forage plants or a shift to alternative food sources—can be determined. Furthermore, changes over time in the composition of food sources can provide insights into the impact of climate on forage resources (e.g., invasive plants, trends in crop rotation). The indicator is determined based on positive nectar intake and the qualitative composition of the food sources.
