Abundance and number of species Beneficial insects in refuge habitats

We assess the occurence of different hoverfly species using classical entomological trapping methods. The collected data provide important insights into the current status of medium- to long-term development of these beneficial insect populations.

By systematically recording their abundance and diversity, changes in populations can be tracked over extended periods. Correlations with surrounding agricultural data help reveal the ecosystem services these insects provide and the significance of factors such as land-use intensity and climate change. This allows potential population declines to be identified early, their causes to be better understood, and appropriate measures to be taken in time.
