Indicator bee diversity Pan Trap Monitoring of Bee Communities

DNA metabarcoding is used to determine the composition of bee communities. Unlike morphological species identification, this approach is independent of taxonomic knowledge and the availability of experts in bee identification. Morphologically indistinguishable species complexes can be reliably resolved to the species level. Furthermore, bycatch is analyzed at no extra cost, generating data on the occurrence of species from other insect groups important to agroecosystems. These include, for example, hoverflies and other Diptera, beetles, butterflies, and Hymenoptera. Depending on the relevant bioinformatic databases, information below the species level is often also obtained, which is not possible with classical morphological identification.
