Pesticides can enter small water bodies through various processes during application, such as drift, runoff or erosion, thereby affecting the vitality of organisms and thus the biodiversity of these water bodies. The SYNOPS risk assessment model calculates indices that determine the risk of pesticide inputs impacting organisms in these water bodies. The model is based on field-specific pesticide application data and their environmental properties, as well as topography, riparian structures, soil data and risk mitigation measures. This allows for an assessment of pesticide contamination in small water bodies beyond the scope of the water bodies actually studied.
