Ruminant livestock density Grassland use intensity

Permanent grassland areas, which are extensively utilised, have been observed to demonstrate higher levels of species diversity in comparison to arable land. The indicator is intended to describe the intensity of grassland use, and is based on the ratio of ruminant livestock to the area under forage production (i. e., livestock density). The indicator enables the drawing of conclusions concerning the requisite production volume of plant biomass per hectare, as well as the quantity of manure applied. The calculations of the indicator and its trends are based on the available IACS data. For a more detailed exposition of the calculation process, please refer to the indicator sheet. The indicator is predicated on a 14-year time series (2010 to 2023).
