The area index of landscape features (LF) provides information on the proportional area of LFs in relation to agricultural land (AL). The index currently takes into account the following object types represented in the Digital Landscape Model of ATKIS Base-DLM: woody vegetation, hedgerows/tree lines, traditional orchard meadows, heathlands, bogs, marshes, non-productive or barren land and margins along AL. Linear LFs such as hedgerows or margins are incorporated into the indicator as an area calculated from their length and an assumed width value. The assumed width value depends on the type and adjacency of the margin type.
